Your Journey Into Crystals

Learn the Basics

Understanding crystals: a simple guide to shapes, colors, and everyday use

Welcome

Thank you for attending our Journey Into Crystals class! Whether you're just starting to explore crystals or want to build more confidence using them, this page is here to support you after the workshop.

Crystals are natural materials with stable vibrational frequencies — and just like sound, light, or temperature, frequency can interact with your body. We use crystals as tools to help shift focus, restore balance, or encourage clarity.

This guide will walk you through the basics of shape and color, giving you real-world ways to understand how to choose and work with your stones — without needing rituals, magic, or complicated rules.

You don’t have to be an expert to begin. Let’s keep it simple and helpful.

Crystal Shapes & Their Purpose

Crystals come in many different shapes, and while their composition doesn’t change, their shape can influence how we interact with them. You might prefer something to hold in your hand, something for your quiet space, or something visual that reminds you to refocus. Think of these as functional design choices — like picking the right tool for the right task.

Tumbled Stone
Everyday, Accessible Energy

Tumbled stones are small, polished, and easy to carry.

They’re ideal for daily use and offer flexible ways to explore frequency without needing much space or setup.

Try this: Keep a few in a dish at your bedside or tuck one in your pocket for the day.

Palm Stone

Palm stones are polished, smooth stones shaped to fit comfortably in the hand. They’re ideal for touch-based calming and grounding. Great while watching TV, reading, or praying — anytime your hands want something to do while your mind resets.

Use Tip: Keep one near your favorite chair or in a bag you carry often. Many people find that simply holding one brings a sense of focus or calm.

Worry Stone

Worry stones are small, smooth crystals with a gentle thumb-sized indentation. They’re used for repetitive touch, which can help calm the nervous system — especially during moments of stress or overthinking. They’re perfect tools for kids, anxious fidgeters, or anyone who needs something grounding in their pocket.

Use Tip: Keep one in your pocket or at your desk to use when you’re feeling nervous or overwhelmed.

Heart

Crystal hearts combine the comfort of rounded edges with symbolic shape — making them perfect for self-compassion, emotional support, or reminders of love and connection. Whether held in the hand or placed near a photo or intention card, they help keep your emotional focus soft and steady.

Use Tip: Place a heart near your mirror or bedside table as a reminder to be kind to yourself each day.

Egg

Egg-shaped stones represent new beginnings, growth, and balance. Their smooth shape fits well in the hand and adds a sense of comfort to quiet spaces. They’re often used during life transitions or seasons of personal development.

Use Tip: Keep one in your prayer space or reading corner to anchor reflection and reset moments.

Bracelet

Crystal bracelets are a portable way to carry the frequency of a stone throughout the day. Because they stay close to your body, they’re ideal for ongoing support — whether you’re working on boundaries, motivation, calm, or clarity.

Use Tip: Wear a bracelet on the wrist you use most often so it stays connected to your daily activity and movement.

Raw / Rough

Raw stones are unpolished and untouched by tools — just as they came from the earth. They carry a stable and natural frequency, and are great for creating grounding anchor points in a space. Because of their texture and shape, they aren’t ideal for carrying but work well on shelves, trays, or grouped with other pieces.

Use Tip: Place a raw stone near your entryway, workspace, or in a spot where you want to “hold the frequency” of calm, grounding, or clarity.

Sphere
Radiates Energy in All Directions

Smooth and round, spheres offer a gentle, balanced frequency that radiates outward evenly.

They're great for calm spaces, energy balance, and meditation.

Try this: Place a sphere near your favorite reading spot or meditation space.

Tower / Point

Tower-shaped crystals (also called points) help focus and direct energy — like a laser pointer for your intention. Many people use them in quiet spaces, work areas, or near items they want to “charge” with clarity or attention. You can face the point outward to “send” energy or inward to help focus inward reflection.

Use Tip: Place a tower near your journal, on your desk, or by your favorite chair to help you stay clear and centered.

Cluster

Clusters are naturally occurring formations with multiple points growing together. They’re great for amplifying frequency in a space and are often used to refresh and reset the area around them. Clusters are excellent for shared rooms, entryways, or areas where energy tends to feel heavy or cluttered.

Use Tip: Use a small cluster in your bedroom or living space to help maintain a steady, uplifting atmosphere.

Double-Terminated Point

These crystals are naturally or cut to have a point on both ends. They’re used when you want to bridge or balance — either between people, spaces, or goals. Some people hold them during prayer or conflict resolution. Others use them to reset focus between two competing thoughts or intentions.

Use Tip: Try placing one between two stones you’re working with — or carry it during conversations where balance is important.

Carving

Carvings — like animals, figures, or symbols — bring visual focus and intention-based energy to your space. These tools combine beauty with meaning and can remind you of personal values, goals, or comfort.

Use Tip: Choose carvings that represent something important to you. Place them where they’ll catch your eye during your daily routine.

Selenite

Selenite is one of the most useful tools to have in any collection. It’s not only a beautiful display piece — it’s also a natural energy cleanser. Use it to clear other stones, or to gently reset a space that feels heavy or overstimulating.

Use Tip: Lay other crystals next to your Selenite stick or bowl overnight, or keep it near your bed to maintain clear energy.
Crystal Color Meanings

When you're not sure which crystal to reach for, color is a great place to start.

Different colors reflect different frequencies, just like
sound or light — and those frequencies can influence how you feel.

You don’t need to memorize anything. Just notice which color you're drawn to.
That’s often your body telling you what kind of support you're looking for.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind:

If you’re drawn to a color, trust that.
It usually reflects what you’re working through, even if you haven’t put it into words yet.

Color is just a starting point.
Two stones of the same color may still feel very different — and that’s okay.

You don’t need one of every color.
Just start with what resonates right now.

💡 Try this: Lay out a few of your stones and ask yourself, “Which color feels good to me today?”
Use that one in your pocket, on your desk, or by your bed — and see how the day flows.

Caring for Your Crystals

Think of your crystals like a battery — they hold energy, but that energy can run low.

Just like we recharge our own energy with rest, your stones also need occasional clearing and recharging. I teach my clients to use their intuition or muscle testing to check when a crystal may need a reset. If something feels “off” or you’ve used a stone during a heavy time, that’s often your sign.

One of the simplest ways to recharge and cleanse your stones is to place them in a sunny windowsill or outside in the sunlight for about 30 minutes. That’s usually plenty of time to refresh their energy without risk of fading (though I recommend keeping amethyst and fluorite out of direct sun).

Here are a few easy ways to do that:

Selenite Stick
Just place your other stones
near or on the stick for a simple,
no-fuss cleanse.

Smoke
Pass your stones through
the smoke of palo santo
or sage to clear energy.

Sound
A chime, bell, tuning fork, or even your voice (yes, your voice has frequency!) can be used to shift energy around your stones.
You don’t need to do this every day.
Just pay attention to how your stones feel — and trust when it’s time to give them a reset.
Final Thoughts

You don’t need to know everything to begin
and you don’t have to use every stone every day.

Let this be a process of curiosity, not pressure.

If you’re holding a single stone while you breathe, journal, or pray
that’s enough.

If you place a crystal in a space where you’ll see it
that’s enough.

If you’re listening to your intuition, even just a little
that’s more than enough.

This is a journey. Let it unfold in a way that supports your real life.
