Frankincense
Essential Oil and Resin

Whether it's the resin form or the essential oil form, Frankincense has an important role through out the ages.  It's history reaches back thousands of years and is still an important part of many people's daily lives.  Frankincense has always been treasured for its many beneficial qualities. In ancient times it was highly prized and valued more than gold.  Only those with great wealth and prominence possessed it.

Frankincense resin is commonly used  in the Middle East.   People burn frankincense resin in their homes as a sign of hospitality and to freshen the air. It is commonly used daily to help strengthen the immune system as well as rid the body of toxins.

For nearly 5,000 years, the resin from the Boswellia tree was considered Arabia’s most precious commodity. The allure of frankincense enticed adventurers from afar who sought the irresistible resin, and the Frankincense Trail in Oman’s Dhofar region was purportedly visited by the notable explorers Marco Polo and Lawrence of Arabia.

The finest and most highly prized frankincense resin is produced by the Boswellia sacra species, which grows in Oman. Oman has a reputation for producing superior-quality frankincense trees that deliver the highest-grade resin, the resin reserved for royalty. Historical and archaeological evidence strongly suggest that the frankincense given to the Christ child was either the prized Boswellia carteri species, of African origin, or the more highly prized Boswellia sacra, of Arabian origin.

Frankincense: Harvesting | Young Living Essential Oils

The historical evidence combined with the superior phytochemical profile of these two species were key factors behind Young Living’s selection of them for our prized frankincense products: Frankincense Oil and Sacred Frankincense Oil. Moreover, Young Living is proud of the singular opportunity we have to be the first commercial frankincense distiller in Oman in hundreds of years.

Today, frankincense trees in the Dhofar region of Oman are regarded as a gift from God, and those whose land they grow on are considered exceedingly blessed. Oman is the greenest and most fertile land on the Arabian Peninsula. Its peculiar climatic and geological and geographical conditions (warm winters, steady sun, limestone soil with deposits of calcium carbonate, and cooling monsoon winds) provide the ideal conditions for the Boswellia sacra trees to produce the finest resin in the world. In her book Frankincense: Oman’s Gift to the World, Juliet Highet compares frankincense trees from other regions, concluding that “no other trees produce the same pure, exalted fragrance” as those found in Dhofar.

How to use Frankincense Resin

Using a Resin Burner :

When burned in the Young Living Resin Burner, frankincense resin creates a sacred atmosphere that enhances meditation and uplifts the spirit. Use these pearls of the desert to enhance your own sacred space.

Use to make Frankincense Resin Water:

The following recipe for Frankincense resin water was shared by Dr.  Mahmoud Souhail ~  the world’s authority on Frankincense ~ during a seminar. Before using Frankincense water, you must take some precautions:

You must introduce this water to your body slowly. A good start would be about 1/4 cup per day. Slowly build up to one cup per day and up to 32oz if you need to.

You can use the Frankincense resin over and over until it no longer has any flavor.

Remember  this IS an acquired taste. You might want to try some flavored stevia and see of that helps. You can also add essential oils. Some recommendations would be:  lemon, orange, tangerine, peppermint and/or spearmint essential oil.

Frankincense Resin Water Recipe by Dr. Mahmoud Souhail:

Put some Frankincense resin to cover the bottom of a glass quart jar or pitcher

Fill the jar to the top with boiling water and cover with  lid and let it sit overnight. Note: the lid cannot be plastic, a glass plate will do if necessary.

Strain.

Refill the jar with boiling water. Note: you may add a few pieces of resin if you need to.

Frankincense Resin Water Recipe Used Most by 12 Stones & Lavender:

Heat 4 cups of filtered water to around 100 - 120 degrees. ( we use a Berkey Water Filter to filter our water )

In a heat proof glass pitcher or measuring cup place 10 - 15 grams of frankincense resin.

Poor heated water over frankincense resin and let steep for 10 to 12 hours (overnight).

Strain out the leftover resin and pour water into your desired glass pitcher. (We use this one.)

Store in refrigerator and save the leftover resin to be used again adding fresh resin to equal 10 - 15 grams each time.
