Electroplated crystals are natural stones—most often clear quartz—that have been coated with a fine layer of metal through a process called vacuum deposition. In this process, the stone is placed in a vacuum chamber where vaporized metal is bonded to its surface, creating a permanent and highly reflective finish.


The result is a rainbow-like, iridescent glow that shifts with light and movement. These stones are sometimes called aura quartz due to their glowing appearance, and while not naturally occurring in this form, they are still made from genuine quartz enhanced by modern technology.

The metals used in this process vary but may include:

  • Titanium – creates bright aqua blues and deep rainbow tones (e.g., Aqua Aura Quartz, Flame Aura Quartz)
  • Gold or Platinum – yields pastel finishes like Angel Aura or Sunshine Aura Quartz
  • Niobium or Iron – adds deeper hues with a more intense flash

What About Rainbow Hematite?

Many rainbow hematite pieces—especially bracelets—are created using a similar electroplating process. While hematite is naturally metallic and silvery-gray, electroplated versions are coated with vaporized metals (often titanium) to produce vibrant rainbow tones. The result is a bold, reflective finish that adds visual interest while maintaining the grounding weight and density hematite is known for.
