Calcite is a rock-forming mineral with a chemical formula of CaCO3. It is extremely common and found throughout the world in sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks.
The properties of calcite make it one of the most widely used minerals. It is used as a construction material, abrasive, agricultural soil treatment, construction aggregate, pigment, pharmaceutical and more. It has more uses than almost any other mineral.
Calcite, which comes in dozens of colors, is a form of calcium carbonate, which is the mineral that makes up chalk.
While its name comes from the German word calcite (meaning limestone) and only came into use relatively recently, in the ancient world, calcite was grouped together with gypsum and called “alabaster” for its fair, milky color.
The calcite is clear, whitish, or pale grey, and when calcite takes on different colors (due to microscopic quantities of other minerals or metals contained within the crystal matrix) its energy shifts, and it takes on unique characteristics.
Calcite is a powerful amplifier and cleanser of energy. According to Judy Hall, author of The Crystal Bible, simply having calcite in the room cleans negative energies from the environment and heightens your energy.
Caribbean Calcite is a more recently discovered crystal made up of a combination of blue calcite, white Aragonite, and light brown Aragonite. It only comes from Pakistan and was first discovered in 2019.
Caribbean Calcite is not as hard as some other crystals so care should be taken when cleansing.
It can be rinsed in water and dried with a soft towel.
Caribbean Calcite is known as the "Stone of Calm" and encourages us to live in the present moment.
